29-year-old Nathan Martin, who rolled his Dominos company car after drinking ‘all night’, has been handed a 20-month driving ban.
Martin, of High Street in Bembridge, admitted a single charge of drink driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier today (Friday).
Prosecutor Liz Miller told the court that on 26th April this year, at around 04:30, on-patrol Police came upon a Mazda on its roof on Newport’s Long Lane. At the scene, passing motorists were helping control traffic.
The court heard how Martin was seen leaving the scene of the collision before heading back to the toppled vehicle, where he was seen with blood coming down his leg. Initially, Martin didn’t identify himself as the driver.
After admitting to being the person who crashed the vehicle, Martin was handcuffed and a roadside breath test was conducted. Having failed the roadside test, Martin also failed a further evidential test at Newport Police Station.
In admissions to officers, Martin said he had been drinking ‘all night’.
The vehicle involved in the collision was a company car, belonging to takeaway giant Domino’s Pizza, for whom Martin was an area manager.
Defending the 29-year-old, Oscar Vincent told the court that Martin deserved full credit for his guilty plea and full cooperation with Police. He also said that his client was under significant personal stress at the time and that the ‘foolish’ decision to drive would be one he would regret for the rest of his life.
The court heard how a driving ban would impact Martin’s current job status and pay.
Magistrates handed a teary Martin a 20-month driving ban and fined him £415. He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £166 surcharge fee.
Why do these idiots continue to make excuses? Don’t drink and drive or pay the consequences idiot!

A minimum 10 year prison sentence will put a STOP to
Drink driving.
I take it the domino affect happened and now an
ex employee!
To commit a crime in ones own vehicle is bad enough,
but to commit a crime in a company vehicle is worse
any decent company would give them their marching orders
not a good advertisement for Domino’s.
Irresponsible driving should always carry the max poss sentence..drunk, drugged, stressed to hell, late… for whatever the reason. NO excuse.
Until a so called person of importance is killed on
Island roads, nothing will be done about all the
speeding / drink and drug driving.
Giving credit for a guilty plea saves all the delay and cost of a full trial. If such a discount was not available, every case would go to trial because the defendant would have nothing to lose by giving it a try.
Who cares about costs in such conditions
they need banging up.
More rediculous excuses from the so called defence.
Hopefully Domino’s will fire him.
Maybe one day the so called defence persons will lose a loved
one to drink or drug driving or speeding motorists and they
will change their opinion.

Jail nothing less this is not an accident one pint over the limit..and we’re meant to be grateful for his guilty plea..he was banged to rights what else could he do. Hope his defence lawyer loses someone he cares for to a drink driver maybe he may grow a conscence.
Good point Demis. Lawyers just want the money. They don’t have consciences. If they did, guilty parties would simply not be represented.
And we would need another prison.
