A former Isle of Wight hotel which has been plagued by fire damage and vandalism could be converted into 9 homes.
Richard Bendy has asked County Hall for a change of use of the closed Parkbury Hotel at 29-31 Broadway in Sandown.
The premises, which was once a jewel in the town’s tourism offer, suffered from a ‘lack of profitable trade’ and finally closed in 2018, according to a statement from Macaire associates.
It said:
“The property laid empty since closing, buyers as a going concern were not forthcoming either pre or post-closure, the property was subsequently purchased by the Carlauren Group as an investment opportunity, but that company ceased trading.
“The property since that time suffered from ongoing vandalism and multiple fires.
“The damage pretty much destroyed the interior of the buildings and No. 29 lost most of its roof. As such the site had limited potential moving forward.”
The architectural practice said the site is now owned by a successful local developer who is presenting the application to bring the site back into practical use.
Proposed accommodation includes 2x 2-bedroom units, 6 with 3 bedrooms and 1 with 4 bedrooms.
The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation on application 26/00388/FUL is live until 19th June and a decision is expected on 13th July.
