A 13-bed House in Multiple Occupation (HMO), 9 ‘much-needed’ houses on a field next to a village and a licensed wedding ceremony venue – these were among the most prominent planning proposals decided by County Hall on the Isle of Wight in August.
On 6th August, the Isle of Wight Council approved Tradeamp’s proposed development with 3 three-bedroom homes, a vehicle access and landscaping next to 115 Station Road in Wootton Bridge.
Planners said the scheme would appear ‘appropriate’ to the location and surrounding area after 4 objections including the presence of bats at the site, traffic impacts, overdevelopment and an alleged lack of demand for the housing.
A scheme to convert a former doctor’s surgery at 16 West Street in Newport into a 13-bed HMO was also given the go-ahead.
The council said that subject to conditions, the scheme would complement, preserve and enhance the character of the Newport Conservation Area.
County Hall received six letters of objection from neighbouring residents raising concerns such as there being inadequate parking facilities, excessive noise and anti-social behaviour from residents and guests, and the development’s cramped toilet facilities.
On Friday, 21st August, the local authority accepted Gwyn Palmer’s proposal for the continued use of the stone barn and specified areas of curtilage at Kingston Manor for occasional use as a licensed wedding ceremony venue.
Up to ten licensed wedding ceremonies a year may take place within the grounds of the historic, Grade II* listed building.
The decision came after six third party letters of objection were lodged, raising concerns such as the impact on neighbouring residential amenity with regard to noise nuisance, historic disturbance from past events, and a need for extra parking.
