Kirk Bain produced his finest darts of the day in the final to win Event 2 of the Isle of Wight Darts Grand Prix.
Bain defeated Antony Smith 3–0 in a commanding final at the Ambassador Freehouse, securing the title and maximum points towards the overall Grand Prix standings.
Another strong field of Island players entered Sunday’s event, sponsored by Nistavis Commercial, with the leading performers advancing from the group stage into the last 16.
Bain began the knockout rounds with a 3–1 victory over Jenson Hunt before overcoming Ryan Cleary by the same score in the quarter-finals.
Tom McInnes provided his toughest challenge in the semi-finals, taking the contest to a deciding leg. Bain held his nerve to win 3–2 and book his place in the final.
Smith also enjoyed an impressive run, defeating Brendan O’Reilly, Adam Froment and Connor Mitchell as he progressed through the opposite half of the draw.
However, the final proved far more decisive. Bain took control from the outset and completed a 3–0 victory to become the second event winner of this year’s series.
Elsewhere in the knockout rounds, McInnes edged out Daryl Hunt 3–2 in the quarter-finals, while Mitchell survived another deciding-leg contest to defeat Dan Havard by the same score.
The last 16 line-up comprised Kirk Bain, Jenson Hunt, Wayne Till, Ryan Cleary, Tom McInnes, Reggie Woodmore, Daryl Hunt, Billy York, Paul Habgood, Adam Froment, Antony Smith, Brendan O’Reilly, Stuart Woodmore, Dan Havard, Connor Mitchell and David Spragg.
With 2 events now completed, players still have further opportunities to collect ranking points and secure their places in the end-of-series Grand Final.
