Wight Community Energy’s Going Electric show returns to Newport Quayside for its fifth edition on 19th July 2026.
In a world where the need to ditch fossil fuels and embrace sustainable solutions has never been more urgent, this year’s exhibition is a must-see for anyone looking to leap into the future.
It builds on the success of 4 previous events that attracted dozens of Island businesses and nearly 1,000 visitors.
The exhibition will once again feature the Island’s main automotive dealers alongside the trusted local green energy installers. Visitors can explore the latest electric cars on display throughout the venue, as well as solar panels, heat pumps, off-grid and charging solutions.
The 2026 event, which will run between 10:00-16:00, will feature the popular Going Electric Lecture Hall programme, with 3 sessions running throughout the day covering electric transport, low energy homes and the broader trends in technology and energy.
The show offers an opportunity to explore the latest developments in sustainable technology and learn from industry experts about the future of green energy on the Isle of Wight.
Laurie Tennant, director of Going Electric organisers Wight Community Energy, said:
“The continuing popularity of this annual event, with both exhibitors and visitors, shows the real commitment on our Island to sustainable practice. Whether householders, commuters or business managers, people are keen to find out how they can contribute to a better world and at the same time reduce their costs and/or improve their comfort and convenience.
“We hope that as many visitors as possible will come along to Riverside on 19th July and see what’s on offer at Gong Electric 2026.”
This year’s event is kindly supported by Red Funnel, who are developing electrified cross-Solent travel, the Co-op, who operate a fully electric home-delivery fleet and by newly electrified Southern Vectis, who will have an electric bus on site for the day.
Free parking will be available at County Hall and Seaclose car parks. Disabled parking will be available at the Riverside Centre.
The Riverside café will be open for light lunches and refreshments.

EVs were great when there were benefits owning one,
the day the benefits were taken away the EV had to go.
The great scam / con continues…
Yet another “green” advertorial trying to influence people to bankrupt themselves, following the Shepherd Ed Miliband herding the whole country into the failing electrical abyss.
Wight Community Energy was swiftly registered in October 2015 just months after the Cooperative and Community Benefit Society Act 2014 was enacted. It has number 7234 in the Mutuals Public Register and is very much worth an investigatory look.
Clause 7 of their registration rules document states “The Society shall have the power to borrow money from its Members and others in order to further its objects providing that the amount outstanding at any one time shall
not exceed £10,000,000.”
What like if they lost a load of money?
That’s a whopping amount of money for starters,so any potential attendees should watch out for “fundraisers”
Another interesting point is at:
Clause 123.
“The Directors may decide to purchase and maintain insurance, at the expense of the Society, for the benefit of any Director or former Director of the Society in respect of any loss or liability which has been or may be incurred by such a Director in connection with their duties or powers in relation to the Society or any pension fund or employees’ share scheme of the Society.”
Two of the original members are Michael Lilley and Ray Harrington-Vail, both eminent “greenies”, although Lilley is now a Lib Dem.
If you are going Darren, or anyone else, at least ask some hard questions.
Boring, diesel is king
