A firefighter is preparing to run 270km in just 27 days in memory of his dad, who was cared for at his Brading home by Mountbatten Isle of Wight before his death.
West Sussex-based Dan Game will complete 27 separate 10km runs throughout September, with the aim of raising £2,700 for the Isle of Wight charity.
The challenge will begin on 1st September and conclude on 27th September, which would have been his dad’s birthday.
Dan’s dad, John Game, retired to the Isle of Wight with his wife Linda, with both receiving care from Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s community team.
Now, 18 months after his dad’s death, Dan wants to give something back to those who supported his family.
Dan has said:
“Dad would say I am mad to take on 27 ten kilometre runs in just 27 days.
“He would have told me there are other ways to raise money, but I like a challenge!
“The Mountbatten staff who cared for Dad before he died were just incredible.
“He wanted to be at his home, and they made sure this happened, setting up everything he needed to stay comfortable. They treated him with love and care.”

Dan will fit much of the challenge around his everyday life, clocking up the kilometres through runs between work and while out on dog walks.
His final 10km will be a little different, as he takes part in an official run through the Sussex village of Barns Green on 27th September.
Dan will record each of his runs on fitness app Strava, allowing supporters to follow his progress throughout the month.
He has already raised almost £700 towards his £2,700 target before the challenge has even begun.
Mountbatten Isle of Wight relies on its supporters and the local community for most of the money needed to provide its round-the-clock expert care.
Funding comes through donations, grants, its network of charity shops and fundraising challenges such as Dan’s.
The charity says 85% of its care is delivered in people’s own homes, as was the case for John and Linda.
