The Easter bank holiday is just around the corner and therefore Islanders are being urged to consider if they have enough medicine to last.
The long weekend runs from Friday 19th April to Monday 22nd April and during this time, pharmacies and GP surgeries are likely to have reduced opening hours.
Islanders are reminded to order repeat prescriptions this week to ensure they have their medication in time for the holidays.
Dr Michele Legg, clinical chair for the Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said:
“Every bank holiday, lots of frontline staff are put under extra pressure to try to chase up prescription orders for those who have forgotten, this is very difficult with many GP surgeries and pharmacies closed.
“It is always good to regularly check your medicine supply, but in preparation for the bank holiday, I would urge everyone simply to check their supplies and plan ahead. This can really help to ease the pressure on staff at such a busy time, as well as saving you lots of time and trouble”.
If you find yourself in need of medical treatment or advice, pharmacies do much more than simply issue repeat prescriptions. It is a great first option for quick, helpful advice. Your pharmacist can recommend over the counter treatments or direct you to a more suitable clinical professional if necessary.
Pharmacy opening hours are likely to be reduced during the bank holiday weekend. Details of local pharmacy opening hours over Easter are found below…
