The Isle of Wight Council is backing the national campaign to get half a million people out and about cleaning up their local community.
The Great British Spring Clean campaign, led by Keep Britain Tidy, takes place between 2nd and 4th March 2018 and the council, in partnership with Amey, will be supporting a number of litter picks with a supply of clear sacks and waste collection services.
If you are part of an organisation or have formed a group to take part in this event, email [email protected] providing further details of a lead contact name and email, dates and the location where your litter pick will take place. The first 15 groups to contact the council will receive the sacks and waste collection.
Councillor Michael Murwill, Cabinet member for waste management says:
“Teams from the Council, Island Roads and Amey have signed up already and we would love some more anti-litter heroes to join us and help keep our beautiful Island clean. We know there are lots of groups already planning on getting involved and we are keen to highlight their great work and support them.
“I hope groups from across the Island will sign up to clean their community and help make sure unsightly and potentially harmful fly tip and litter is reduced. We want to send the message to thoughtless fly tippers and litter louts that we are taking our landscape back to clean and green”.
Paul Southall, Amey Isle of Wight account director, said:
“Amey are delighted to be involved in this year’s Great British Spring Clean and we’re looking forward to getting involved and helping the community with litter picks. We all need to do our bit to help reduce the litter blighting our country. People need to think before they throw and be more responsible with our precious landscape.”

Isle of Wight Council will continue to monitor fly tipping areas identified and will prosecute culprits.
The council has registered with Keep Britain Tidy and will be updating their website with all Island based events once they are confirmed.
