A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued by local forecasters IW Met Service and will come into force within the next hour.
Showers throughout today (Wednesday) have left roads and surfaces rather wet and with the falling temperatures this creates a risk of icy stretches on untreated roads and surfaces, perhaps even some black ice in some locations.
Motorists are warned that the risk of black (or invisible) ice is particularly high in rural parts where field run-off water is still actively flowing.
Temperatures will generally fall to between -2c and 0c across the Island tonight but a few sheltered rural parts may see lows down to around -4c.
Localised freezing fog patches will be an additional hazard with the potential of icy deposits in these areas.
Through Thursday morning the temperature will rise very slowly with some parts remaining close to or below freezing for the whole day and in these areas the risk of ice will remain.
Gritters are already out and about across the Island and they will be re-deployed at 05:00 tomorrow morning, as reported by Island Echo.

I expect the usual idiots will make the headlines then..
