Road temperatures are expected to drop to -3c overnight, leading to the decision to deploy gritters twice between now and tomorrow morning (Thursday).
Island Roads say that temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing from 17:00 and with patchy rain today, roads may be more slippery this evening.
The decision has been taken to mobilise gritters at 16:00 this afternoon and again at 05:00 tomorrow morning.
Motorists are being urged to take care and stay safe.

If the weather turns to heavy snow the rate the Council are using the grit & there will be none left as in previous years.
Up to now the weather has not justified gritting!
What roads have you been driving on? I’ve encountered black ice quite a few times.
Very wet roads as many landowners no long keep ditches clear and water runs off, making a dangerous situation for road users.
Any chance of telling the drivers to slow down, then they won’t waste so much grit in the gutter and drop it on the road where it is supposed to be.
