The Isle of Wight Road Races – a TT-style motorcycle race due to be held in April 2022 – has taken one step closer this week.
A formal Motor Race Order has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, along with evidence of a race permit issued by the Auto-Cycle Union (ACU).
With just 6 months to go until race day, preparations are well underway for what is set to be a major motorcycle event – the first of its kind on the Island. The road racing has been enabled by a change in the law that allows road traffic regulations to be lifted without the need for an Act of Parliament.
Those behind the event include champion racer Steve Plater, British Touring Car driver James Kaye and APL Events.
Dozens of professional racers are expected to descend on the Isle of Wight between 20th-23rd April 2022, taking to the 12.4 circuit that passes through Chale, Shorwell, Brighstone and along Military Road.

I’m looking forward to F1 round Coppins Bridge!
Wait until they put a bus lane around Coppins Bridge, your wish will come true.
Awesome, hope it goes ahead. This Island badly needs the exposure and the resultant boost to the economy.
I fail to see how just 2 days of chaos will benefit the islands economy, where are these pie in the sky figures then???
stay indoors and draw the curtains then..
Ha, ha. Have you been asleep for the last year ?Or, is this comment just another attempt by you to stir unrest? Not your first, is it !! And certainly not your last, I expect !!!
Nope your right. It won’t be my last.
Shows how totally naiive you are then, doesn’t it. If you can’t come up with anything but drivel, why not stay off the site so we don’t have to suffer your bleating…
Well 7 of us coming. Not sure on description but affluent older males out to enjoy ourselfs would fit. So no real budget as such will just spend to enjoy. Many more like us so assume in April it will help local business out in every way. No chaos from us. Give it a try and see how the figures pan out before decrying it out of hand?
Its not just two days though is it…..the IOM TT is held over a week but we go over a week earlier for all practices and leave a few days after its finished to enjoy the quieter island…I would think that many visitors will come a few day prior to your event and stay a day or two after also.
There will be pluses for and negatives against this event.
On the one hand, i do hope it goes ahead and is a success.
On the other hand, a lot of people do not want it for various reasons, some are valid.
about time the island had a national event
When it does go ahead the anti racers will find a 101 things that happened while the races were on.. Will be lots to get off their chests
8 of us (on 8 bikes) are booked in for our stay in Shanklin 18th – 24th April….all regular IOM TT visitors so really looking forward to this event. Hopefully the people against this will change their view when they see the income the event will generate.
