Ryde Methodist Church held it’s popular Burns Night supper last Friday (2nd February).
Organiser of the event, Ruth Realey, brought the haggis into the room accompanied by the bagpipes played by Tim Morris. The Selkirk Grace and Toast to the Haggis were relayed to the room using the Church’s new projection equipment in the Church hall.
Approx 50 members of the congregation and local community then dined on cock-a-leekie soup, wee tattie scones with haggis and red onion marmalade, followed by venison casserole accompanied by ‘neeps and tatties’. The meal was rounded off with a choice of cranachan trifle or sticky toffee pear pudding with ice cream.
At the beginning of the meal Tim Morris continued to play the bagpipes and during the evening the revellers were entertained by the Isle of Wight Scottish dancers, who later invited the diners to join in the dances. A donation was made to the dancers to pass onto the The Admiral Nurses charity.
With a reference to the Loch Ness Monster, Nessie’s grand raffle took place during the evening to boost funds raised. The evening raised a total of £300 for the church.
After much fun and merriment the evening closed with Auld Lang Syne.
