Kev ChantThe Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Racing Team were out in force on Sunday at the RTCC National Time Trial Circuit Championships at Goodwood, with over 350 riders in total across a number of categories competing for the titles. This is one of the most prestigious on the cycling calendar which attracts all the best short distance time trial specialists from all over the country. Kev Chant, competing in the Open TT category up against 130 other top class riders, was predicted a 15th placing on paper and was keen to finish higher up the standings. Kev pulled out a brilliant ride, powering home in a time of 19.32 to take 6th place overall, missing out on a podium by just 10 seconds. Kev said after the race:
“I’m really pleased with that result as it was much better than my predicted time. I’m hoping I can pull out another good ride later this month at the National 10 on the road in Cambridgeshire”.
Nick Earley, who has had a fantastic season in both MTB and on the road, was the first U23 rider to come home in the Road Bike category, crossing the line in a time of 23.02 and finishing 11th overall. Ewan Cook All-rounder, Ewan Cook, put in another solid performance over the 10 miles (4 laps of the course), crossing the finish line in 22.11, a time just short of his personal best but good enough to place him 6th in the Junior category. Competing in the female road bike category were Charis Jones and vet riders Kirsty Cook (Vet 50-54) and Julie Cooper (Vet 60-64). Charis, who is back on the road to recovery after a short illness, was the 3rd fastest Senior and 5th overall, finishing in 25.25. Kirsty put in another gutsy ride to finish in 32.42 and Julie, who was competing in her first ever race, was pleased to finish under 30 minutes in a time of 28.26. Jerry Cooper (Vet 60-64) who was racing again for the first time in 2 years after recovering from a heart condition, came home in a respectable time of 26.37 and is now looking forward to competing in the VTTA National Championships over 15 miles next weekend.
