Tessa Bryson, a member of the Carisbrooke/Newport Ranger Unit, has gained a Girlguiding Gold Award – the 1st Ranger on the Island to do so. The Ranger Gold Award is a special achievement and gives each participant the opportunity to put everything they’ve learned through the Ranger Programme into practice, demonstrating their leadership skills by undertaking an activity in their local community. To gain the award Tessa has completed all 6 Theme awards – Know Myself, Express Myself, Be Well, Have Adventures, Take Action, and Skills for My Future. She also completed interest badges including morals and values, genealogy, women’s rights, cooking, self-care, sport, festival goer, costumes, event planning, entrepreneur and voting. Ranger leader, Emily Knight, has said:
“Huge congratulations to Tessa. It is an amazing achievement and thank you to Jeannette Ralph, the Isle of Wight Ranger Commissioner, for presenting this award to her”.
Jeanette Ralph adds:
“This new Ranger Programme is an excellent way for young women to gain confidence as well as learning life skills. The local Ranger units always welcome new members and any young women aged 14-18 can find out more at the Isle of Wight or national Girlguiding websites.”
