UPDATED: The Environment Agency have issued a flood alert for the Eastern Yar today (Sunday) following prolonged heavy rain which has seen many Island roads become flooded.
Following days of persistent and heavy rainfall, out of bank and road flooding is expected throughout the Eastern Yar valley. Impacts will be greater today in the upper reaches where access tracks at Horringford and Golf Links Road could be flooded. At Alverstone, from early evening onwards, the river level will probably rise high enough to back up at the main road bridge. In Sandown, impacts are expected from very late evening and into tomorrow, when caravan parks may experience flooding to land.
Rowborough Lane in Brading became heavily flooded around lunchtime, however the flood level has now subsided and the road has reopened. Coach House Lane in Brading has been temporarily closed, as well as Nettlestone Hill, Nettlestone and Harding Shute, Ryde.
Further heavy rain is expected late this evening and overnight into Monday morning.
UPDATE @ 16:10 – The Environment Agency have now issued a flood alert for Gurnard Luck.
River levels in the Gurnard Luck are currently high and although levels are now falling, the river level will increase for a couple of hours over the high tide period which is expected at Cowes at 1800hrs. At Marsh Road, properties close to the river may experience garden flooding.
Nettlestone Hill near Ryde has now reopened to traffic.
