An early hours crash involving 2 cars led to scrambling of the air ambulance to Newport this morning (Saturday).
It was shortly after 01:15 that the emergency services responded to Gunville Road, to the west of Newport, following a smash involving a Nissan Qashqai and a Mini One.
Police, fire and ambulance crews all rushed to the scene, with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance lifting off from its base at Southampton Airport.
Flying medics, within just 10 minutes of take off, had landed in a field beside the crash scene.
Initially, it was feared that those involved had sustained serious injuries. But after an on-scene assessment, the occupants of both vehicles were assessed as suitable for treatment at St Mary’s Hospital.
Police had closed Gunville Road between the junctions with Ash Lane and Forest Road, but the road has now reopened in both directions.
Both vehicles involved have been recovered.
It is the second road traffic collision of the night, with Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service responding to an overturned car to the east of Newport at just before 22:00.

I cannot believe how many vehicles veer
onto the other side of the road.
That is because there is no law on this lawless island.
Take a drive along the Military Road nr Chale car park
just past the Wight Mouse inn, there are tyre marks all over the
road, both sides of the road.
I can only imagine it is a RAVE hotspot at night & no
law travels to Chale to witness such events taking place.
The council are useless what to do about
tackling speeding, they are too bothered worrying about
their pension pots
