The first-ever Isle of Wight Biosphere Festival, which is set to be held on 29th and 30th June, will offer a chance for local businesses, organisations and communities to celebrate together the Island’s Biosphere status and everything it stands for: the Island’s unique combination of people, nature and place. Since the Isle of Wight won UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status in 2019, there have been biosphere projects in schools and communities but there hasn’t yet been an opportunity for the Island to get together as a whole and celebrate it. So, on 29th/30th June 2024, the Biosphere Steering Committee are aiming to provide that chance with a new Biosphere Festival – with hopes it will become an annual event. The Biosphere Festival will be Islandwide, and will be as big and bold as it can collectively be made. It will include a weekend of talks and workshops at the Quay Arts in Newport, which will be a mix of practical learning, family fun and exciting and novel explorations of what the biosphere is all about. Local communities, organisations and businesses are being asked to join in putting on their own events, however large or small, under the Biosphere Festival banner. These could be something that was already planned that you could give a biosphere theme, or something entirely new. It could be something you’ve done before that you could repurpose for this weekend – as long as it fits 1 or more of the 9 Biosphere principles in some way, which can be found on the Isle of Wight Biosphere website – www.iwbiosphere.org.
So, how can you get involved?
- Save the date! June 29th and 30th 2024
- Start thinking about how your organisation, community or business could be involved
- Sign up for the mailing list
- Sign up as a volunteer to organise and assist on the day
- Sign up for an online briefing events on 6th and 14th March to find out more and ask questions

Over the years dozens have come a cropper on that corner. Take it slow and it’s not a problem.
Bend, yes. Tight bend? No. Slippery – probably.
To be fair that is a deceptively tight corner coming from the RSPCA. Wish the biker well.
I often wonder how many people that comment on bike crashes actually ride bikes or ever owned one??? gust of wind might have had him for all this lot know, hope he recovers and his family are ok.
if you are riding such that “a gust of wind” can make the difference between getting round a bend safely, or not, that you are definately NOT riding to the conditions…
agreed that split oil or fuel can be unpredictable and make the road slippery, as can manhole covers (although they’re not unpredictable), but still if such is a posibility, and your riding style can’t cope with that, then again, you’re not riding to the conditions…..
(and yes,. I have ridden bikes,.. and have fallen off because I didn’t ride to the conditions)
getting trolled by wightwank lol…good for yeeeewwwww, i was riding that afternoon and it was gusting badly, but you’d know better in your big old comfy boat with your heating on sporting rainbow lanyards..i really hope your not the captain because you don’t understand much, you also fall off bikes??? comment on ferries mate and leave the bike stuff to people that can ride them.
I came off my bike during my CBT because the road had be resurfaced and it started raining so my back wheel slid out when I was coming out of a junction, like 3mph! Still passed, people are too quick to judge from their sofas
Let me guess it’s a old person who had not got a clue
wrong again king turd
Imagine being a sad lonely old man and know one evening notice your gone
Go to school and learn how to spell, you are just a TROLL, and maybe even learn to read, it clearly states, a young male, you really are a waste of space. Now return to the village as it is clear you are the idiot they have been searching for.
You must a sad lonely person hopefully your be ok and the children are too young for you
You are one sad twat, grow up.
look in the mirror turd king
You’re the one with no clue pal, wait for the facts
“young male motorcyclist” actually. You obviously only look at books etc with pictures not words.
you did not read this bit then The young male motorcyclist
Now I wish the poor two wheeled chap a speedy recovery but it’s not like that corner jumped out is it? Another waste of our emergency services because of speed, hundreds of motorists, motorcyclists and even the Lycra clad peddlers make it round that corner weekly!
You may find the speed of motor cy clist was not the issue
Waste of the services?? So quick to judge! In fact it was my nephew who has serious injuries! Nothing to do with speed but a twat of a driver pressuring him driving up his ass, possibly clipping the back wheel and then driving off and leaving him in a bush for over an hour!! People should stop judging from behind a keyboard! Thankfully my nephew is alive but will be a long road for recovery when he gets out of icu in Southampton!!!
How about don’t jump to conclusions Stan the perfetic little man the corner didn’t jump out at him no the problem was the car driving 12” away from the back of his bike forcing him off the road then driving off after watching him crash that was most likely the problem! Waste of emergency services ?? So should my nephew have just lead in a ditch with serious injuries to die then ? Next time u feel like ur opinion could be at all valid try knowing facts u time wasting useless excuse of of overgrown sperm !!!
More speeding on Island roads.
Motorcyclists have a problem with speed.
Watch them go along Beaper Shute or the Military Road.
It is no wonder many of them come a cropper.
Slow down you stupid B’stards.
Wasn’t speed that caused the issue or road conditions so looks like ur more of a (stupid Bstard) reali doesn’t it thinking that u no everything about peoples driving because u have seen some people driving stupid u have probs seen a lot of stupid f**king comments in ur life too hasn’t stop u from doing one of ur own tho has it !!!
How? I agree Dave if you don’t drive like an idiot no accident?
All it takes is a bit of diesel, gravel or other contaminant and your coming off.
I wish the biker all the best.
As to know F -all commenters on here, put your dummy back in and go sit in the corner quietly.
say that to my face you c*nt
Oh dear, is little boy upset, Mummy not wet nursing you today? Grow up ffs.
Wish the rider well…Don’t know why the comments are so quick to assume speed. Whilst l’m not that naive to think it’s not a factor it could also be something as simple as clipping a drain cover or fuel on the road (that comment is made from experience). Fed up with everyone judging without the facts.
Motorcyclists seem to have a Death Wish
Speed Kills
When have you ever seen a motorcycle keep to the speed limit?,
they are a bunch of lunatics on 2 wheels!
That’s just putting every motorbike rider in the same bracket my nephew who was involved in this crash actually has a lot of respect for riding and is very careful so don’t judge all in same category that’s like saying all people called (Andy) are just perfetic judgmental boring pieces of shit … but hey you would no right
I hope the person is okay.
Curious that not one of the armchair know-alls have mentioned the reverse camber on that bend. You’d have to know it was there and be quite experienced. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the biker.
The island should have National Park status. I hope that our next MPs (who won’t be Blobby Seely) push for the island getting National Park status. It would protect our habitats and stop all of this unnecessary development.
People do actually have to live here and have proper jobs. Biosphere and National Park won’t sustain our community. Most people have to live in the real world!
Odd reply. However, I think that National Park status would boost tourism considerably.
If the Island has obtained Unesco Biosphere status, why is our wonderful council still allowing ever more houses to be built on the Island, destroying that biosphere?
