Consultation has re-opened on the application for exploratory oil drilling on the Isle of Wight, with final plans submitted for the building, operation and decommissioning of a well site for the exploration and appraisal of hydrocarbon minerals in Arreton.
Information relating to access and rights of way mitigation measures has been updated, along with a new site layout, sections and restoration and clarification of ecology and environmental health issues.
Advice sought from Island Roads before the submission of final highways measures, saw the highways company say the ‘proposed amendments were acceptable’, resolving matters of an inadequate turning area, vehicles on the highway and insufficient parking.
With the few concerns ironed out and the highways access — a track road leading off from the A3056, next to the public footpath on St George’s Down — remodelled by the applicants UK Oil and Gas, Island Roads has now recommended the application be approved with 8 conditions proposed by them, including a wheelwash for vehicles connected to the construction of the site and gates set back from the main road.
UKOG says the scheme is an opportunity to see whether it would be viable to drill at the site, near New Barn Business Park, for oil in the future. It is not asking for permission for production of oil, only exploration as part of trial stages.
The revised documents now mean comments are again being accepted in regards to the application (20/00513/FUL) until 12th February.
The campaign group, Don’t Drill The Wight (DDTW), however, has said it has real concerns the public will be confused, due to the ‘inaccuracies and discrepancies’ of the council’s planning portal, particularly with responses to the consultation.
Keeping track of every response submitted, DDTW say, as of 16th January, there has been 2,243 objections and 69 supportive comments left for the council to consider for the application.
Having raised the issue with the planning authority and sent in a report with their findings, Sylvia May, a DDTW member said:
“The planning portal simply does not publish the correct number of differing types of submissions of any kind at the application link.
“We want to ensure all Islanders understand it is still possible to add further objections and additional comments particularly related to the new documentation.”

nimbys – typical hypocrites.
don’t want oil drilling in my backyard, but are quite happy for large scale production to happen in places like nigeria, azerbaijan etc and have it pumped to the uk refineries, so that it can be turned into fuel for the chelsea tractors they drive.
This must be prevented at all costs.
This minnow company, whose share price has dropped from over 10p to now a tenth of a penny, is hardly indicative of a successful company.
With little cash, should anything go terribly wrong, will they have enough money, insurance and expertise to correct it?
Or will they just fold, leaving us, the council tax payers with a huge clean up bill, if say the underground nearby water source for Knighton water works became fouled by oil or drilling compounds.
Why should WE risk such for nothing?
Or is our illustrious leaders in for a cut for ‘granting’ permission?
Can’t see why anyone would risk the main growing area of Wight for a mainland companies profit otherwise, can you?
nimbys

no drilling will take place unless provisions are in place for site rehabilitation afterwards – it is part of the EIA
Nigeria et al, is for that country to decide upon what it does or doesn’t do.
The first are happy to come here to settle so, we must be doing something ‘right’.
I wonder if you would be happier to settle in such a land, and see how ‘wonderfully you fare’ telling them that they can’t earn a bean, because those ‘Bruvs’ who are now riding around our Capital in huge cars, living life to the max no longer wish to support those they left behind.
Still here, thought so.
What drivel are you on about pins – you are a hypocrite – you want the full use of petroleum based products and some of the things you use, wouldn’t exist without hydrocarbons, but you don’t want the extraction of oil in your backyard
and your comment has a racist undertone to it – not very 21st century
Seems to me it’s the wrong sort of Energy business to invest anything in.
What a choice for Arreton, stinking bio mass fumes, or the risk, no matter how small of sump oil in your water supply.
What next a Nuclear reactor, or coal mine?
A. ‘Island Roads are now recommending’ ? Have Island Roads completely taken over the IW Council or is it a case of the Council saying ‘Wasn’t us’
B. At least its not as bad as having thousands of new houses foisted on us,
You can guarantee that they will be building hundreds of new ultra-cheap rabbit-hutch housing on the land once it’s been sucked dry. It won’t be in much of a state for anything else once they are done with it. Scorched earth it’ll look like.
Exactly correct Pepe.
The greedy self serving ‘lot’ we have in control now, will be already drawing up plans with symbiotic developers for then, it is far easier to gain building status on ex ‘industrial land’ than it is on Green field sites.
Not that that has stopped them doing such in Ryde, yet then to those in power, it makes no difference if a failure as they will ‘gain’ as you say on the hundreds of bricks and benefits funding their next rise, expense claim, pension pot and company car.
Glad YOU can see it, many still trust such!
No it won’t pepe – at best they will create a concrete “pad” which they work from and afterwards it is all removed and returned to grass etc again. They will fill the borehole as well and there will be no evidence of exploratory drilling either.
also, even if they do find economically viable amounts of oil to extract, it won’t be pumping immediately – it would be recorded as a find and then applications and paperwork are completed to change the licence from an exploration to a production licence.

The companies value has declined rapidly, as can be seen from the ‘chart’ button over the years, and their success is not rated highly by their share holders, most who have lost huge sums of cash.
The dangerously low share price means they have had to keep issuing new shares to fund projects, but now, with investor confidence virtually gone, then should the unthinkable happen, and a huge environmental disaster strike here, then this is NOT B.P, who have the funds to rectify such.
The Island people will be the ones left with the problems for years if their insurance company can’t or refuse to pay up if down to bad management or poor procedures.
This is the Islands ‘vegetable basket’, and if the soil is contaminated by oil, or, more likely the huge amounts of water which has filtered down through layers of chalk from the downs above and is now used for the Islands drinking water in East Wight, and used to water crops over a wide area, our arable farming and our drinking water will be ruined and hugely costly to address.
And for what? Hardly going to be Dallas, as these small scale developments employ few if any Islanders, only a small specialist crew from UKOG or their agents, so we gain nothing but risk a huge amount.
The c ouncil will never see that, as so long as there is enough ‘grease’ to cover their greedy outstretched palms, then to them, that is ‘all’ that matters.
Vote them out at the next given chance, whilst we still have some greener, wildlife, and beauty left to ensure OUR income arrives from holiday makers, and selling agricultural products as we ought, not a get rich quick vain hope for a few literally TEN a PENNY dreamer share holders and a handful of mainland speculators to use us and be damned.
Wow lady NON, what an awful track record of failure UKOG have going by their valuation.
No small wonder their holders are fighting likes rats in a sack.
Many are losing big time, but WE will lose more should this go horribly wrong.
Seems madness anyway as oil is so plentiful and increasingly unwanted now.
The large oil fields are still awash with oil as is fracking sites around the world.
Never worth ruining the land and water for a puddle of such, when its on the way out anyway.
As Pep says, likely a way to insert more monopoly houses onto agricultural land in the near future when this has gone ‘tits up’
Vote this bunch OUT
The dangerously low share price means they have had to keep issuing new shares to fund projects,
………
clearly you have no understanding of financial markets and the instruments that are traded in them and how the mechanics of a companies share structure and market capitalisation work.
I know just how the fiscal markets work.
UKOG issued shares on aim, hype of the Gatwick Gusher, and press reports claimed potential finds being larger than those of Kuwait.
All this oil was supposed not needed to be fracked as in naturally fracked ground. Contained within Kimmeridge clays
The hype caused a lowly share price to rise on hope, but reality was very different, and the share price crashed as UKOG have to pay off loans by issuing massive amounts of shares, which dilutes all holders.
As there expenses far outweigh any income, the misery goes on.
I assume you bought in, hence trying to re-coup some of your loss.
Understandable but not very ethical to risk our Island because of your greed and folly being left on a ‘spike’.
hmm ..it is not a fiscal market and no you do not know how they work, as you haven’t even touched on market dynamics, sentiment driven trading, the aim market casino, market maker tactics, short positioning, rights issues and so much more.
all you have done is regurgitated publicly available information from google news – gatwick gusher was the nickname given by the media and not in the RNS issued by UKOG.
i did not invest in UKOG, as it doesn’t fit my investment criteria or trading strategies.
Bert don’t want oil on his lettuces. He makes a song an dance if salad cream gets on it by accident.

…………………………
that is not UKOG share site, that is london south east investment and trading platform.
Try thinking this way, if they go ahead and find a bit of oil, guess who’s pockets will be filled with black gold first, and then the council will agree to drilling and extracting as much as possible, before they stop selling diesel and petrol cars..
Stop it now beforehand !
