Activities hosted by South Wight Area Youth Partnership (SWAY) over the Easter period proved a big hit, with around 60 individuals taking part in the wide range of offerings planned for young people and their families.
Following last year’s fantastic success and celebrating being able to meet outside safely while restrictions are still in place, SWAY plotted another geo-cache route based on the Easter theme. The hunt was on for 20 Holy symbols which by means of codes could be identified from biblical references.
The fastest team won a selection of scrumptious Easter chocolates. The winning family team were the ‘Nerds’.
Another chance to enjoy being out and about again was kayaking at Corf Camp. A total of 30 young people over two days took to the water, watched, and joined by some highly entertaining seals also enjoying the spring weather.
The group of young people negotiated the tides and the wind with the help of trained supervisors. SWAY expresses its thanks to Corf Camp for the use of the facilities and to HTP for the equipment.
SWAY’s Box Project has been such a lifeline over lockdown, and yet again, produced another successful meal for the whole family. A healthy macaroni cheese was the recipe made from scratch by 17 young chefs with produce supplied by SWAY using a grant from ‘Connection4Communities’: another hit.
Andy Dorning, Lead Youth Worker said:
“We all enjoyed last year’s geo-cache so much that we wanted to do this again and at Corf we were able to safely get out on the water.
“SWAY’s Box Project has meant young people can learn skills and do group activities together from home. The summer sees new versions with ‘One-Pot’ cooking over a fire and ‘Baking-for-a-Picnic’ followed by a socially distanced picnic.”
SWAY runs youth activities and supports young people and families across the South Wight both virtually and otherwise. Reducing the isolation during lockdown, young people were able to come together and have fun in many ways, communicate with each other and the youth workers. 1-1 mentoring and family work has also continued.
