The Waverley Holiday Park’s Beer, Music, Poetry and More Beer Festival, held last weekend, has raised a record amount of money for a local charity.
The Isle of Wight Defibrillator Group benefitted from the generosity of Islanders and visitors, to the tune of £4,000.
Steve Read from the Isle of Wight Defibrillator Group said that the money will make a huge difference.
“We are incredibly grateful to Julian Adams and the team at the Waverley Holiday Park, the local musicians and spoken word artists and of course the public who so generously put their hands in the pockets to raise so much money.”
It is the 12th charity festival at the Waverley Holiday Park with Island bands such The Bohemians, The Damien Paul Band, The Geckos and The Baggywrinkle Blues Band, with spoken word artists such as Adam Gaterall and Superb Owl among those who performed over the 3 days.
Money was raised through the sale of beer and cider, including the popular Earl’s RDA donated by the local brewing company Island Ales, as well as from collection buckets that were passed around the venue.
There were 16 barrels of ale and 8 boxes of cider with only 8 pints left over.
Julian Adams from the Waverley Holiday Park said:
“I’m blown away by this year’s festival, definitely the best 1 yet. We nearly sold out of cider on the Friday due to the scorching weather but managed to secure emergency supplies.
“All the bands, the sound engineer, the volunteer bar staff, security, and the chefs worked extremely hard to create a truly special and unique event.”
Next year’s dates have also been released, which will see more beer, music and poetry take place over the weekend of 13th, 14th and 15th September 2024.
