Isle of Wight Distillery’s locally made hand sanitiser was put into action in the kitchen at Pan Together first thing on Thursday morning – just hours after the first batch became available for Islanders.
Pan Together’s kitchen is open as part of Downside Community Centre’s support services to vulnerable people in Pan, Pan Meadows and Barton.
Rachel Thomson, Community Centre Manager, said:
“We want to send a really big thank you to Xavier Baker and the whole team at the Isle of Wight Distillery for having the great idea of turning their gin-making equipment into a not-for-profit hand gel production line. This is really going to help us in these most difficult of times with our meal delivery service, essential shopping provision and prescription-collection offer for local residents in need”.
“If anyone from our area would like to know more about what we can do to help them, their friends, their families and/or their neighbours, please ring 01983 248170 or email [email protected]“.
As previously reported by Island Echo, in a display of ‘true island spirit’, the Isle of Wight Distillery team has turned its expertise and knowledge to the production of hand sanitiser for locals in need.

Useful people need saving the most now. This virus takes healthy albeit less so, but the world will need those people of use to rebuild our broken society. Hospitals will have to chose who to treat when the numbers becoming overwhelming, so perhaps we should distribute the hand cleaner to medics and those in jobs where they benefit the greater masses first?
