A popular Newport eatery has made a shock announcement regarding its future this afternoon (Tuesday).
The Grill Isle of Wight opened several months ago and was a favourite for many diners in Newport during the coronavirus when it first launched as a takeaway-only service, serving steaks, seafood, and an incredible range of burgers and other dishes.
The takeaway service soon evolved into a fully-fledged restaurant, offering classy dining in St Thomas’ Square’s Charter House building (formerly known as El Patron).
Its popularity increased further as stunning photos of flavoursome food were posted on social media by many hungry Islanders, and booking a table became quite the challenge thanks to the number of people trying to get a taste.
However, a shock announcement has left diners disappointed, as the venue announced its immediate closure on Facebook.
A statement posted reads:
“We are so sorry to be doing this, but unfortunately due to unforseen and continuing venue issues we are being forced to close with immediate effect.”
It might not be the end for The Grill though, as the owners have revealed they are ‘desperately’ looking for a new venue.
The statement continued:
“We are desperately looking for a new venue on the Isle of Wight to continue growing our journey.
“We are deeply sorry for everyone we are disappointing and if there was any way we could get around this we would.”

You don’t close after just a few months!
Something very odd going on here!
I don’t know who has the actual lease, please enlighten me.
A bad penny.
Try Googling The Wheatsheaf Newport.
It seems our island isn’t so small that a bad reputation will ruin you.
