There is exciting news for the youth of the Island, as Isle of Wight Scouting launches a new Explorer Scout unit.
The Isle of Wight Sea Hawks Explorer Scout Unit is the latest group to be created on the Island, providing a valuable opportunity for local 14-18 year olds to gain specialised maritime skills.
Focusing on both theoretical navigation and practical sailing elements, along with rowing and power boating, this aligns perfectly with the maritime heritage of the Isle of Wight. The Unit will also be working through the badges available to them in the progressive training scheme and taking part in hikes, camps, map reading, first aid, knots and cooking, amongst other things.
The Unit will meet on Wednesday evenings, during term times, from 19:00 – 20:30 at 2nd Cowes (St. Mary’s) Sea Scout HQ in Smithards Lane.
Explorers are a go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 18. Together, they make up the 5th section of the Scouts.
Week in and week out, they gather in groups called Units to try new things, make new friends and conquer the small task of changing the world.
