The next production at Trinity Theatre in Cowes is ‘A Doll’s House’ by Henrik Ibsen – a classic from the 19th century that is just as relevant today.
1st performed in 1879, the play is set in a town in Norway and focuses on the character of Nora, and a woman’s place in her marriage and in society. It was a subject which caused a storm of outrage at the time and is still relevant today.
The play – widely studied at schools and colleges – is being staged at 19:30 on the evenings of Thursday 12th October 12 to Saturday 14th October, and ends with a matinee performance at 14:30 on Sunday 15th October.
The theatre has pulled out all the stops to create a unique and imaginative setting devised by the director, Amanda Robertson.
Robertson said the play was intriguing in the way it reveals so much about the characters:
She said:
“I studied it years ago and have always wanted to stage it. It’s gripping and very atmospheric, and although the story seems simple enough, you soon realise there is much more going on.’
A strong cast has been assembled featuring Rebecca Lennon as Nora, Kevin Wilson as her husband Torvald, Martyn Stanley as Dr Rank, Nessa Law as Kristine Linde, Philip Barker as Nils Krogstad, Anne Walpole as the Maid and Carolyn Ferguson as the Nursemaid.
Tickets are £9 and can be booked online at www.caods.org.uk
