UPDATED: The Island’s Central Convenience stores are set to be transformed into Bargain Booze Select Convenience outlets as a result of a £25million buy out today (Friday).
Conviviality, the owners of Bargain Booze, are in the process of buying a total of 127 Central Convenience stores from WS Retail Ltd, part of the troubled Palmer & Harvey (P&H) group.
12 Spar shops across the Isle of Wight were purchased from the Hunnyhill Stores Group by WS Retail just 12 months ago, but now all 12 look set to be converted to Bargain Booze Select Convenience stores within a 3-6 months time frame.
Central stores are currently unable to sell lottery tickets or alcohol due to the transition period.
All staff are expected to be transferred over.
UPDATE @ 18:11 – The sale has been agreed and confirmed this evening.
Diana Hunter, chief executive Officer at Conviviality has said:
“We are delighted to have completed the acquisition and to have the Central Convenience business join the Conviviality Group. We now welcome our new colleagues and franchisees to the group.
“Conviviality Retail now comprises 836 stores, serving more customers in the south and south-west of England.”
