Multiple emergency crews, including an air ambulance crew, are working together to recover a casualty in need of medical assistance this afternoon (Saturday).
HM Coastguard has tasked both Cowes RNLI lifeboat and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams to the incident, which is ongoing in the vicinity of Kingston, East Cowes.
An ambulance and an Ambulance Officer are also in attendance at Cowes Harbour Services on Kingston Road, alongside 4 police units.
UPDATE @ 14:45 – It’s understood that emergency teams have responded to reports of an unconscious female in the River Medina.
Cowes RNLI inshore lifeboat has responded to a pontoon in the river and has worked with Bembridge CRT to recover the female to an awaiting ambulance at nearby Kingston Marine Services.
Paramedics are working to stabilise the casualty at the present time.
UPDATE @ 14:54 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been called to assist the casualty and has now landed near to the incident.
It’s specialist doctors are understood to be assessing the casualty.
UPDATE @ 15:43 – After a successful recovery operation, the 25-year-old casualty has now been transported to St Mary’s Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Island Echo has been told that the woman had been taking part in sailing activities with Cowes-based water sports charity UKSA when she was hit by the boom of a sailing dinghy, before falling backwards and hitting her head once more. The fall has rendered her with suspected spinal injuries.
Emergency teams are now standing down from the incident.
UPDATE MONDAY – Thankfully, the woman escaped any serious injury and was discharged from hospital the same day.
