A car has been left on its side after veering into a roadside ditch on the main road into Bembridge this afternoon (Monday).
The driver of the silver Ford found themselves in need of assistance following the single vehicle incident, which occurred just after the turning for the Culver Down beauty spot at just before 13:20.
Traffic is being directed by onlookers, including a member of National Trust staff, with minor delays for motorists in both directions.
UPDATE @ 13:50 – It’s understood that the driver was distracted by her unrestrained dog shortly before the incident.
Apart from being shaken, the woman is said to be unharmed by the incident.
Emergency services including the police are said to be on their way to the scene as a formality, with the recovery of the vehicle expected to take place shortly.

Rule 57 of the Highway Code says animals should be restrained in cars. Amazing the number of people who have them loose or sit them on their laps in the front. Don’t they realise that the dog could die in an accident. They call themselves animal lovers too!!
It is scary how many people drive round with unrestrained dogs in their vehicles, this one only resulted in car off the road but equally could have caused the death of a pedestrian, in a crash even a small dog being hurled into the back of the drivers head would result in serious injury or death.
It is also illegal to have an unrestrained animal in the vehicle.
Can’t park there mate!!
Bloody cheek, get your own tag mate
Odd’s on the woman has never seen what a pet in the back seat unrestrained does to the driver in a crash.
odds
People with pets in cars should know better.
