Southern Vectis has moved to reassure bus passengers across the Isle of Wight that services will continue to run at normal levels – despite the area moving into Tier 3 from today (Boxing Day).
The local operator reintroduced full service timetables over recent months, with a host of safety measures in place. Now, the despite Tier 3 status, it will be ‘business as usual’ for the bus network across the island.
Southern Vectis will run its planned Boxing Day services, with a modified timetable next week – which was already scheduled before the Tier 3 announcement. Normal services will resume from Sunday 3rd January.
Andrew Wickham, Managing Director, says:
“We know the area will be hit hard by this latest move, and we understand that many workers will still need to be able to travel, so our plan is to continue as we are.
“Several months ago, we introduced special measures to ensure travelling on public transport is one of the safest places to be – and this is still the case.
“We have stringent regimes in place, including extra focus on touch touch-points with anti-viral wipes. Our passengers must wear face coverings, unless exempt, and we have also given our operation the ‘belt and braces’ treatment, by also adding hand sanitisers.
“I would like to give credit and to thank our dedicated team of drivers and support staff – who are themselves keyworkers. Their efforts are helping people carry out vital work on the island.”
