Several expensive boats stored on the banks of the River Medina have toppled over in the adverse weather this afternoon (Tuesday) causing thousands of pounds worth of damage. At least 2 vessels have been knocked over completely with a 3rd suffering from a broken mast and other damages. The incident occurred at Kingston Boatyard in East Cowes. High winds have battered the Island all day today with some 94mph gusts recorded at The Needles. Local weather forecaster IW Met Service issued a yellow warning for wind and rain yesterday (Monday) which is to remain in place until later this evening. Cross-Solent travel has been greatly interrupted throughout also with cancellations affecting Red Funnel, Wightlink and Hovertravel. A spokesperson from Cowes Harbour has said:
“Despite thorough safety checks this morning, the strong winds at Kingston Boatyard have knocked over 1 boat on hard storage which, in turn, has damaged a further 2 boats. “Owners have been informed all other vessels stored at the boatyard have been fully checked again for safety in the current weather conditions.”

never mind it’s only a boat
I didn’t hear any Met Office warning ahead of this storm, only when it was upon us !!!!
Just because you did not see it does not mean it was not give. It was, but was later than normal as their models did not initially predict a storm. They have explained this for the people bothered to look it up instead of s*&t posting on social media.
I just hope they are insured
It’s amazing how all this fake climate change keeps causing all this damage and giving us storm after storm.
Why do yards store fin or long keel yachts fully rigged? Absolute recipe for disaster.
Also small boats on tall stands, who really needs to walk under a 25 footer?
Very unprofessional.
