Barnardo’s staff on the Isle of Wight took part in a 12,000ft sky dive at Sandown Airport on Tuesday.
The children’s charity is now in its 150th year and to mark the milestone 11 staff members, along with volunteers and family members, saw their fundraising efforts take off with a sky dive to raise money to help the most vulnerable children in the UK.
After the jump an event was held at the Barnardo’s Sandown Family Centre, which included activities, stalls, a bouncy castle, refreshments and lots more.
Jonathan Whalley, Barnardo’s regional Director, who took part in the event, said:
“The sky diving challenge is not for the faint hearted! It’s fantastic that so many staff and volunteers came together to take part in this challenge to help mark our 150th anniversary.
“The proceeds from this event will help us continue to support the UK’s most vulnerable children. There are lots of fun fundraising events taking part across the country so everyone has an opportunity to get involved in our 150th year”.

Thomas Barnardo began his work in the streets of Victorian London in 1866. His vision was for no child to be turned away from the help they need. April marked the month 150 years ago when he arrived in London and first witnessed the desperate conditions in which children lived in the East End.
150 years on, the charity bearing Barnardo’s name works across the UK and is still standing up for the most neglected and disadvantaged children.
