Approval for yet more double yellow lines on the Isle of Wight – this time in the Newport area – could be given next week. Nearly 60 schemes have been proposed to install new parking restrictions, or vary them, across Newport, Carisbrooke and Gunville. The Isle of Wight Council consulted on the proposed changes in October last year, with 272 valid responses received for the schemes in Newport and 86 in Carisbrooke. The schemes seeking approval were requested by members of the public or local councillors. Of the proposals, the majority have been supported but 6 in Newport have received more objections than positive comments. They were:
- Watergate Road (7 objections to 4 supporting)
- Carisbrooke Road (20 objections to 10 supporting)
- Laburnam Close (5 objections to 1 supporting)
- Linden Road (17 objections to 8 supporting)
- St James Street (4 objections to 2 supporting)
- Recreation Ground Road (5 objections)
All of the schemes include adding parking restrictions which residents have argued is unnecessary. A resident of Carisbrooke Road, where it is proposed no waiting restrictions could be added from Monday to Friday between 08:00-18:00, said it is already extremely difficult to find parking on the street and the regulations would make it impossible during the day. Others argue the schemes would make the roads safer for pedestrians and easier to get through for emergency services. Objections were also made to proposed schemes on Hinton Road in Newport, Clatterford Road in Carisbrooke and Gunville Road but they received more positive comments. The council has said the loss of on-street parking has been considered but in some locations, priority was given to the road safety and movement of traffic over the preservation of parking spaces. The authority said it has tried to keep the restrictions to a minimum so it can keep as many parking spaces as possible. The cost would be more than £67,000. The council’s cabinet is being asked to approve the new regulations at its meeting next Thursday (11th January) but members could choose to abandon the proposals or amend any of the schemes. If the changes are approved, the council has said it would monitor the impact of the changes and review them if necessary.

So many people have gone off the Rails thesedays.
Has no one thought this girl may be in need of support is her mental health been reviewed?
no, a mate lives near her, she is just a timewasting, attention seeker – the police are always at her home, because of her antics.
Bang her up, could have caused an accident
If she’s related to the Sandells that used to live in Spanners Close I am not at all surprised.
Pathetic comment get a life, sunshine.
Sounds like this girl needs a bit of help in the right direction, naming and shaming her isn’t going to help her one bit
YOU take her into your home then and ‘care’ for her. Let us know how YOU get on.
Silence is all telling.
With your way of thinking, noone would receive any trained support for their mental health, but would have to wait for a local person to take them into their home. Not practical, is it.
To be fair, when we have trespassers on the mainland railway, the British Transport Police very rarely actually charge them when they are apprehended. Trespassers cost TOC’s and Network Rail tens of thousands of pounds in delay minutes and inconvenience thousands of customers, yet they mostly walk away scot-free.
“To be fair” … to whom?
Whatever the reason. The disruption caused to others is not acceptable.
Glad it ended ok but let’s hope it is sorted properly.
Ironically she was wearing crocks lol
Hopefully she will get on the right track now.
Jade, if you read this, you seem to like being outside, have you considered helping with nature conservation? There are several groups who welcome volunteers, Green Gym, the Island Rivers people, National Trust etc. You would meet great people, feel good for helping look after our lovely island, get fit etc. Just a thought 🙂
Why the hell should decent volunteers, who are caring folk for innocent wildlife have to work alongside a state funded known nutter who commits dangerous criminal acts?
The LAST place it ought to be is in the beauty of the Countryside, wielding a cutting tool or even near anyone decent.
Keep it legally drugged up in a bed sit state funded hovel after removing it’s womb to prevent some drunken drugged lover choosing it over babestation for ten minutes.
Good lateral thinking.
Obviously not the ticket
