Plans have been submitted to turn a former poultry farm into houses, in the first part of a development between Cowes and Gurnard.
Filling the gap on Place Road between The Range and the new 93-home Meadow View Park on the edge of Gurnard, outline planning permission is being sought by Bourne Developments to build 14 houses.
In a second phase of the scheme, which is yet to be finalised and submitted for planning permission, a further 27 detached, semi-detached and terraced houses are indicated to be built.
The first-phase homes, comprising of 2, 3 and 4-bed market houses, would be built on mostly disused land but with a collection of dilapidated sheds from a former poultry farm removed.
The outline planning permission considers access, appearance, layout and scale of the site, with landscaping reserved for later consideration.
Planning agents, Andrew White Planning Consultancy, said in a statement submitted with the application:
“The proposed development would inevitably alter the appearance of the site, through changing it from an unkempt and partially overgrown previously developed site to a housing development.
“This is an opportunity to rejuvenate this site, while delivering a mixed collection of quality homes of a scale, form, density and layout that is commensurate with the surrounding area.”

Why don’t they just concrete over the whole of the Island? Again where are the jobs for the residents of all these new houses?
Don’t give them any more ideas.
I am concerned as to the whereabouts of the ‘Chicken Pluckers’
This c ouncil needs to be removed before life here becomes intolerable by the huge influx all this building will bring.
The worst group ever, verges, footpaths, hedgerows have never been so neglected, and the cut backs, DESPTE all the extra homes already built paying in ever more c.tax mean they are wasting money like never before.
They are over payed, likely some very corrupt, and completely uncaring as to the Islands natural beauty being it’s draw to future visitors, as all they care about is turning ‘cheap agricultural land’ into lucrative building plots, which they gain from.
Is the clue in the question? Isle of Wight builder’s paradise.
I remember as a boy, the Island used to be a beautiful place to grow up, with green fields to play in and hundreds of places to explore. Now it is just a concrete jungle and a dumping ground for paedos, crackheads, dealers, arsonists and any other low life chavs and their feral brats that everyone else is fed up with near them causing trouble. Every green field is at the mercy of greedy corrupt developers and councilors and planners all exchanging brown envelopes and funny hand shakes. I have never seen such a lovely place decimated in only a few decades by people’s greed for their own gain. Always known as the ”Sunshine Isle” and other nice names, The Isle of Wight is rapidly becoming The Isle of Sh*te.
Moan by all means, but ensure YOU and all you know vote this lot OUT next time.
Considering booking a Doctors appointment for a year’s time just in case because very certain that I will not be able to get one if I wait until then!
I think islanders should support small scale development
Ready for the onslaught of thumbs down? None of this is small scale for our small island. We don’t have the infrastructure for all these houses just look at our small hospital at the moment! How will it cope with all these extra people. Jobs, schools, parking problems healthcare, how come we the islanders can see these problems but our
ever greedy council can’t?
The other problem is that we have a huge percentage of empty housing 90% of the year due to second home owners.
They WOULD if it was ‘INSTEAD OF’ not ‘AS WELL AS’ massive developments.
This lot want Both. Provided the developer and land owner can give large enough thank you cards.
Thats what I was implying!
Developers are seeing loads of developments being passed in greenfield sites despite the large numbers of objections and now we have another jumping on the yes you can develop what you want, where you want and as many as you want fiasco.
more destruction of the environment – do these d ic kheads realise that you need trees and plant life to generate the oxygen we need to breathe and to extract the CO2 we expel, when we breathe out – imbeciles.
Exactly and all the extra traffic will add to the greenhouse effect ! And what about the wildlife ?
We all need our flora and fauna ,how about just for a change we have foresters building woods ,how novel would that be ?
If I won the lottery i would buy up all these spaces and use is for nature conservation .
No more houses .
