Hovertravel and Red Funnel have both cancelled cross-Solent services due to adverse weather today (Tuesday).
The Red Jet crossings from Cowes to Southampton at 13:15 and 14:25 were both cancelled ‘due to high winds across the Solent’. Red Funnel also announced that they expect more cancellations as the day progresses.
In a statement on social media, a spokesperson said:
“Due to adverse weather forecast this evening we are expecting disruption and possible cancellations to our Red Jet service. If you are planning to travel with us, please check http://redfunnel.co.uk/service for the latest updates”.
Meanwhile, Hovertravel have cancelled all services ‘due to adverse weather’ with a further announcement expected at 14:00.

South Western Railway have also announced that Island Line serviced will not run between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade.
A spokesperson said:
“Poor weather is affecting the railway between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade. Trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised because of this problem.
“At this time, we estimate that disruption to our services will end at 17:00. All lines are blocked and your journey is likely to take longer. We will let you know if this changes or when we have more information.”
UPDATE @ 14:20 – Hovertravel have now announced that services are still cancelled with a further update now expected at 16:00. They have also said that weather cancellations are expected tomorrow (Wednesday).
Red Funnel have now announced that they are expecting further disruption and possible cancellations to the 19:05 and 20:15 Red Jet services from Cowes.
SWR have also now announced that they are running a replacement shuttle service between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – Hovertravel have now announced that services will resume at 16:45 from Ryde and 17:00 from Southsea.
Red Funnel have announced that the Red Jet service has returned to timetable and SWR expect the Island Line service between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade to resume from 19:00.
UPDATE @ 17:55 – A spokesperson for SWR has now said:
“Trains are now running normally following poor weather conditions between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade and there should be no further delays to your journey.
“If you were delayed by 15 minutes or more, you may be entitled to claim compensation.”
