Cross-Solent operator Red Funnel has announced the cancellation of 6 Red Jet services due to ‘strong winds combined with Red Jet 4 operating limitations’ this afternoon (Monday).
Although the weather seems much calmer than that experienced during Storm Babet last week, when Red Funnel were forced to cancel all services, Red Jet 4 is their oldest craft.
As a result, the 16:10, 17:20 and 18:30 from West Cowes as well as the 15:35, 16:45 and 17:55 from Southampton, are all cancelled.
A spokesperson for Red Funnel has said:
“Red Jet 1535, 1645 & 1755 SOWC and 1610, 1720 & 1830 WCSO cancelled due to strong winds combined with RJ4 operating limitations.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused to your journey.”

Presumably the pilot has been eating too many beans again.
What strong winds??….get some of the boat people to show you how it’s done, you can find them in hotels….
What a joke there’s no wind at all I’m sat on the sea front lovely day any poor excuse as usual from a poor running service
If RJ4 can’t manage today’s “strong winds” it is clearly not seaworthy and should have its MCA certification withdrawn. They’re hot enough on the poor ol’ Floating Bridge!
Max force 5 to 6 at Calshot at around 3pm. Seems a bit light to be cancelling.
Corruption comes to mind, how insulting to take us as idiots……Trouble is they have no competition….
What some people fail to realise is that when you get out in the middle of the Solent, if there is even a moderate wind coming from the general direction of the Needles (in the west) and there is a strong (spring) tide ebb flow coming in the opposite direction, it can result in extremely choppy conditions. That ,presumably, was the reason behind the few cancellations. Anyone not exposed to the full force of wind from the west would be forgiven for failing to fully appreciate the above.
