24 Islanders have now died in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus, figures released this afternoon (Wednesday) reveal.
The latest data from NHS England confirms the death toll has increased from 22 to 24. The latest victims died at St Mary’s yesterday (28th April).
Earlier this week it was revealed through the Office of National Statistics that 3 Islanders have died in the community (outside of the hospital environment) meaning the total number of Islanders to die with COVID-19 now stands at 27.
A total of 104 cases of COVID-19 have now been confirmed on the Isle of Wight, but that number may well rise again when new data is released later on today.
21 people have recovered from the deadly virus and have been discharged from hospital. It is hopeful that the number of recoveries will increase again when the Isle of Wight NHS Trust supply the information in a statement shortly.

I wonder if they will reveal what that poor 30 year old fella died of in Newport today. This virus is devastating the world economy. I hope we pull through. Stay safe everyone.
They can not say until they know the cause of death and the family have been told. No reason for you to know ether way, stop being nosy and disrespectful to the family of the man.
