A 19-year-old man from Newchurch is under investigation following a 3-car crash in Ashey yesterday evening (Wednesday).
Police were called to reports of a collision involving a Ford Fiesta, a BMW and a Toyota Avensis on Ashey Road, at the junction with Green Lane, at 18:35.
Officers attended and soon identified that the driver of the Fiesta was impaired.
The teenager was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and taken into custody at Newport Police Station.
He has since been released from custody but remains under investigation whilst Police await the results of blood tests.
Yesterday’s incident was the first of 4 road traffic collisions to take place last night, with crashes at Cowleaze Hill in Luccombe, Millward Road in Ryde and Yaverland Road, Sandown.

Before any assumptions be better if we knew what the blood results show.
Still a accident caused so something is wrong
Will not show what a total idiot he is.
was there something in the water yesterday? 4 crashes in one day!!!
Should have to take an IQ test before learning to drive.
Probably educated at some university, that lot are mostly idiots…that lot love smashing stuff, like old statues.
GP nurses vets dentists solicitors police teachers social workers engineers medical scientists occupational therapists pharmacists etc go to university. So we should sack them all by your account? I suggest you don’t use their services and skills as you would not want an idiot helping you or doing cancer research and such.
Must have been a blue moon
More bad driving on the IW
You are getting boring now.
Another pr*ck who thinks it’s ok to drug drive.
It’s everywhere now. What’s wrong with these people.
To all the dumb asses who call for cannabis to be legalised, can you image the carnage on the roads???
Alcohol is legal but you’re not allowed to drive on it. Why would cannabis be any different?
10 year forced driving re-test would help identify most of the island’s bad driving.
You’re quite right, it’s everywhere on the island these days, even in areas one might not expect.
It’s spread like this, because it’s been allowed to – by those who had the responsibility to tackle crime.
For some reason they decided to turn a blind eye to drug dealing, despite its illegality and connection with the criminal underworld, so now our roads have become more unsafe.
Not long ago there was mini full of youngsters in Bembridge Lifeboat Station car park, all smoking the stuff and throwing out their rubbish. It roared off recklessly at high speed…and I thought that’s an accident about to happen soon.
Beware – especially cyclists and pedestrians, not that you can do much to protect yourselves.
The police turn a blind eye to most crime as they are utterly dysfunctional and lazy, i was behind a police car last week and a car two vehicles in front of it blatantly drove through a red light, did they do anything, no just sat and ignored it.
This same driver had already been reported to the police 2 days earlier for a whole string of driving offences in Ryde, including driving the wrong way in a one way street, and driving on a pavement, nearly knocking a pedestrian down, speeding on ryde pier, and generally driving as though he was drunk or on drugs.
Nothing was done.
