A sheep injured in the latest dog attack at Carisbrooke Castle has sadly had to be put to sleep as a result of the injuries she sustained.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Millie was injured in an attack last weekend, which is understood to have been the 4th involving sheep in the area in the space of a year.
Drone SAR For Lost Dogs Isle of Wight has today (Monday) confirmed that Millie’s injuries were so severe that she had to be put to sleep this morning.
It comes just over a week after another of Denise’s sheep had to be put to sleep following injuries sustained in a separate dog attack.
Drone SAR For Lost Dogs Isle of Wight has now renewed its plea for owners to keep their dogs under control around livestock.
The group has said:
“Sadly, we’ve received the heartbreaking news that Millie had to be put to sleep this morning as a result of the horrific injuries she sustained in the dog attack.
“There really are no words. This beautiful, defenceless sheep has lost her life because of an entirely preventable attack.
Article continues below this advertisement “This is exactly why we keep pleading with dog owners to keep your dogs under control around livestock.
“It doesn’t matter how friendly your dog is at home. It doesn’t matter if they’ve ‘never done anything like it before’. Around livestock, things can change in seconds – and the consequences can be absolutely devastating.
“Please, please – if you are walking anywhere near livestock, keep your dog on a lead.”
Police are said to be investigating the attacks.
My earlier siggestion was censored, but the question is: what are we doing about the owners? I would like to see something very drastic/terminal.

Save it for someone who cares.
Destroy the dag.
Fine the owner and repay the stockholder.
Dogs are a nuisance, they are unpredictable, can turn aggressive without warning.
How can you take an animal seriously that has an appetite for its own feaces?

Ah yes, “all dogs are bad, all owners are irresponsible, nobody should own a dog”… blah blah blah.
In reality, most dog owners are responsible people with well-trained dogs that are under control and perfectly predictable in everyday situations. The problem isn’t dog ownership itself, it’s the small minority of owners who fail to train, supervise or control their dogs properly.
Those irresponsible owners frustrate responsible dog owners just as much as they frustrate everyone else, because they’re the ones giving dog ownership a bad name.
