The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to a crash involving a motorcycle at the bottom of Cowleaze Hill in Luccombe this evening (Wednesday).
The yellow and green helicopter has landed in a field just metres away from the casualty, who is now being tended to by flying doctors and local paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The air ambulance lifted off from its base in Andover at around 19:30, touching down off the main Shanklin to Ventnor road at just before 19:55.
1 fire appliance from Shanklin is also in attendance in the interest of scene safety, alongside Police.
The motorcyclist is currently being assessed.
Cowleaze Hill remains open to traffic in both directions under give and take.
UPDATE @ 20:35 – The motorcyclist has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land, accompanied by the HEMS crew. Their injuries – understood to be 2 broken wrists – are not thought to be life-threatening.
The air ambulance has now relocated from Luccombe to the helipad at St Mary’s in Newport.
No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in this incident, which has occurred on a long right hand bend.
Recovery of the motorbike has been arranged.

Hopefully a speedy recovery but I noticed in this area moss is protruding from the kerbside into the road which on a damp day probably very slippery
Did you or do you work for the railways, almost like leaves on the line type of excuse. I’m sure the rider will be ok, speedy recovery I like what you did there.
Wasn’t a very good scrambler.
Very tight right hand bend. Was the bike being ridden at speed?!!!!
I hope the rider recovers well and fast. Being a lifetime biker myself I can see by the wear on the rear tyre that there has been some serious lean on this bike very recently meaning speed(ing) was almost certainly involved here.
Clearly you have no idea
Or maybe the bike was used on a track day at some point. Stupid assumption to make from a supposed biker. The wear on the tyre is quite normal for a sports bike, a good inch from the edge of the tyre, so probably used quite sensibly.
Hope the rider makes a full and quick recovery. Not a nice thing to have happen regardless of circumstances.
Motorcycles go round that bend at ridiculous speeds. I’ve been overtaken by many. Not saying this is what happened here and wish a speedy recovery but looking at the bike involved tells a lot.
The state of the bike tells you nothing. motorcycle fairings are made from plastic and have few fixing points. If the metal frame was damaged it would be a different story
What does “the bike involved” tell you exactly? That because it is a sports bike it must have been being ridden irresponsibly? Why don’t you armchair experts keep your assumptions to yourself if you don’t know the facts of the accident. There could have been any number of reasons. Hope the rider is OK.
To bloody fast as usual. If he was doing the speed limit he wouldn’t of crashed. End of.
Assuming begins with ‘ass’ as are most people that feel entitled to ply the usual negativity so common on IE comments.
Il take an educated guess and say no one else was there to see the accident.
It’s definitely speed related, why do most bike riders think the law on speeding doesn’t apply to them!
And don’t bother replying with most don’t! Because you do…. end of
Even in built up areas!
Moronic doesn’t even begin to describe you.
More bad driving on the IW
On that corner there are diesel traces regularly, so speed may not have been a factor. I think people are looking at the model of bike and prejudging. Wishing the rider a speedy recovery and thanks to the emergency services.
That bend is a accident blackspot for a reason.
That bend is notoriously dangerous having a negative camber, the most dangerous for cyclists and motorcyclists alike.
