A crash involving a Land Rover Defender has led to the closure of Yaverland Road near Sandown tonight (Wednesday).
Police were called to the incident, close to the junction to Sandown Bay Holiday Centre, at just gone 21:00 – almost at the same time that emergency services were called to another crash in Ryde.
No one has been seriously injured in the smash, which is understood to have also involved a second vehicle.
Island Echo is told that a car was travelling towards Bembridge at speed and collided with the rear of the Defender, ripping the 4×4’s rear axle off.
Recovery agents are already in attendance and the road is expected to reopen shortly.
Yaverland Road has been closed in both directions by Police, with access to the Yaverland estate via Culver Parade.
UPDATE – Yaverland Road has now reopened in both directions.
Emergency services have attended no less than 4 collisions this evening, in Luccombe, Ryde, Ashey and now Yaverland.

That’s Brilliant and so true well done
Will be more tourists here soon, well if they can afford the £300+ return ferry that is !! The money wasted on those ferries could well be spent on this Island… !
