Public Health England have revealed there are now 123 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the Isle of Wight.
The latest data shows an increase of just 1 from 122 cases yesterday (Friday). This follows a sudden increase of 15 cases from 107 on Thursday.
The recent increase may be as a result of extra testing on the Island with the establishment of a mobile testing facility in Newport. Anyone testing positive at these stations are not poorly enough to be in hospital, but are showing symptoms of the virus.
NHS England report that there have now been 26 coronavirus deaths in hospital, with the Office for National Statistics confirming 3 people have also died in the community – 2 in care homes and 1 at home – as of 17th April.
The latest information from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust confirms 22 people have recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged from hospital.
The total number of confirmed active cases on the Isle of Wight is 75 – the highest it has been.

OMG, now we are the highest number ever. Hardly reached a peak then. And a peak means the top and a mighty long slow decent back down. I am afraid when lockdown ends the peak now will resemble a mole hill and those beds will be much needed. So many out today. How come so many decide to jog, cycle, and walk now. Normally these people would go out rarely. People here seem to do just the opposite of what they are told. Many of us will die an awful and untimely death because of these self centred people. Wait until it mutates and takes the young instead. Then watch them lockdown. Be different then. If so I will drive my mobility scooter past their garden and cough. Wont like them apples will they.
In response to your question, “ How come so many people decide to jog, cycle and walk now.” Because Naomi the human body needs exercise, and these are activities that can be done safely whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines. Pretty obvious really. We are in lockdown currently in case you where not aware, and it is older people like yourself who have been advised to self-isolate. It is generally younger people who are risking their lives to support those like yourself. So selfish, no I don’t think so. You can keep yourself and your mobility scooter at home where you belong.
Naomi,
if you stay in and self isolate, then you won’t be around other people and it reduces the chances of you catching anything at all, although you can quite easily catch something even just being indoors without any contact with anyone. Plenty of things are around the home – bacteria, cut yourself on something etc etc.
Other people are going out to work – perhaps you need reminding, that you would not have electric to power your computer, or to charge up your mobility scooter if the electricity workers weren’t out of their homes. Then without the working age, water employees, BT and other internet/phone staff, banking, shop workers, delivery drivers, farmers, doctors, nurses, transport workers, gas employees and all other essential service staff outside their homes working, you would be sat indoors, in the dark, no food, no water and no power for that mobility scooter, meaning no coughing outside other peoples homes, you selfish, entitled, arrogant cow.
We really need you right now don’t we????
Not surprised when M&S in cowe s let every one in because the queue out side is long, all about money not worried about it spreading.
That’s because most businesses can’t afford for it not to be about money. You go 2 weeks without money you go bust simple. welcome to 21st century life. A world where you can’t afford to do the right thing even if you want to. As Bart Simpson once said”your damned if you do your damned if you don’t “
Masks must be worn, and lockdown instigated one step at a time.ex – nurse.
Apologies, the gradual re – opening of normal life, must be instigated one step at a time. With masks worn in all public places.
no carol – masks are not completely effective and why the hell should I be expected to breath through cloth all day instead of the fresh air
No, I am not wandering around town breathing the fibres of a cloth mask all day, making it damp with breath and covered in bacteria, which I then re-breathe back in instead of it being expelled from my system as nature intended.
Rather selfish attitude. You are endangering others
@sue
99.98% of the population will either not have this virus or suffer very mild effects – no more than the flu – why should we put up with such draconian stupidity just because those in the 0.02% cannot stay indoors if they are so worried.
how naive and selfish …. a mask protects others from you and if you beleive those figures and facts you need to start reading some truths
People on island are just ignoring lockdown not surprised not surprised number is increasing well don’t start whinging when lockdown goes on for months
Do you do anything but point the finger and gripe. Your mother clearly never said to you if you don’t have anything positive to say then say nothing! It’s a hard enough time as it is with out people such as yourself carrying on!
So what are you doing with that comment then? Didn’t your mother ever tell you if you don’t have something nice to say then dont say it?
Mine didn’t before you ask
That’s because there’s nobody stopping them going out. Is anybody really scared of getting a fine? No. correct me if I’m wrong but 5 people have been given fines? Compare that to the 29 people that have died means you are about 6 times more likely to die of it than get a fine. Hardly surprising nobody seems to care anymore with those odds.
That picture says 2019, so there was tests available then? Hmmm
