New plans have been submitted to build houses on the site of a former popular cattery in Wootton.
Under the plans submitted to the Isle of Wight the now-closed Reynards cattery would be demolished, along with the existing house, to make way for 10 new houses and bungalows.
Permission was previously granted for 8 homes on the Palmers Road site in August 2019 but work has not been started as it was submitted as a speculative proposal.
The permission does still have a year before the rights expire but local developer, Solent Homes, has taken over the part brown and part greenfield site and looks to increase the number.
In planning documents, agents Andrew White Planning Consultancy said the company’s nearby Lushington Hill development is almost at completion and because it has been so well received, it decided to purchase Reynards.
Planning agents say the addition of 2 extra homes is a further benefit, as it will mean a financial contribution towards affordable housing would be made. The 10 homes proposed would be split between houses and bungalows, with 2x 2-bed and 8x 3-bed properties.
The planning agents say the scheme is an opportunity for a developer with a proven track record of developing high-quality homes to optimise the land.
The site on Palmers Road will be opposite part of the approved development of 40 dwellings at Palmers Farm, which was granted in October 2019.
Agents say they are mindful the dynamic of the surrounding area is subject to change but are looking to strike a balance between optimising the full potential of the land while ensuring the density and layout would complement the area’s character.
You can view the plans (21/01570/FUL) on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until 13th September.10

If our present IWCC Planning Committee thinks it’s reasonable to throw a family off Westridge Farm for a development no one wants, there’s no hope for the Island, and no point in commenting.
I emailed a question about the revised Island Planning Strategy over two weeks ago, and surprise surprise no answer!
part greenfield site and looks to increase the number.
…..
there you have it – they don’t care – they want to build more dull houses on greenfield – this should be rejected on that very point
Cattery to rabbit hutches, is there no end to the money grabbing council…. council tax is all they are interested in.
NIMBY lot will stop it. They don’t want a fixed link but don’t want to build the housing needed for the essential workers the island needs. Either they can live on the mainland and have a quick and reliable route to work or build housing so they can live here. The NIMBY lot seem to think we don’t need either. They are killing the island with their constant objections to projects that bring money and work to the island.
How many essential workers do we need? The plans for Ryde alone is near on 2000. Funnily enough we also need to be producing our own food to feed these essential workers!
Rubbish! Has the dreadful Westridge catastrophe escaped your notice by any chance?
And so this fiasco goes on , has anyone in planning thought about the size of the island? Ps it hasn’t got any bigger!!!!!!!
Have they thought 10 new home’s could easily be another 20 car’s (or more on our roads) ??????
20 plus people needing Doctors Dentists etc etc .
Or are they seriously dead set on the concrete jungle style!
That will kill off tourism …..
Come to the sunny concrete jungle , mmm no appeal in that ……
There is a problem, 10 homes shouldn’t mean 20 people. It should be like 40, that’s the underutilisation of land. We need homes not more sprawl destroying countryside.
The Lushington Hill site wasn’t well received by anyone who lives close to it. There were many objections before planning permission was granted. These were completely ignored by the council. Even work on revisions to add another two properties to the site continued before they were given permission, yet the council ignored this too. What was once the green garden isle is fast becoming a man made s******e with inadequate infrastructure to support all the extra people, cars, demands on services etc. Just build indiscriminately without any regard for environment/wildlife. As long as it makes money for their mates the council will approve it.
