The body of a woman has been located in the search for missing 64-year-old Gillian Burns, Police have confirmed.
It’s understood the discovery was made this morning (Tuesday) as Coastguards searched along the coastline at the base of Culver Cliff, between Yaverland and Whitecliff Bay.
Bembridge RNLI’s inshore and All Weather Lifeboats were launched in tricky conditions to support the recovery operation at around 09:00.
It was on Monday morning that a major search was launched to find Gillian, from Brooks Close in Bembridge, who had disappeared from her home address. She was last seen by her husband at 22:00 on Sunday night.
Police, HM Coastguard and WightSAR descended on Culver Down yesterday morning and soon located Gillian’s bicycle off Peacock Hill, to the north side of Culver. An appeal for the public’s help was launched more than 5 hours later.
WightSAR were also deployed to search the immediate area around Gillian’s home yesterday evening.
Formal identification has not been completed but her family have been made aware.
At this time the woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
How incredibly sad. Poor Gillian.

Yes,they all come rushing when it’s too late.Poor lady had probably been in turmoil for a long time. I have felt like this told to ring crisis line which I apprehensively did to be shouted at by the man working on it saying “ why are you ringing me,what do you expect me to do about it ring the council” I was homeless at the time,on the streets a disabled oap lone female

Was only asking, was a serious question! There is two bikes there, which are padlocked together so unless she could have ridden two bikes at once which would be impressive I very much delt it so if one was her’s then who’s is the other? Could be connected to the incident…,

Not our place to speculate but my guess is that the husband went looking on his bike and found hers but not his wife so then called police (which would explain the two bikes).
