Police, HM Coastguard and WightSAR have descended on Culver Down near Bembridge this morning (Monday) where a search has been launched for a missing local woman.
Concerns are growing for the lady’s welfare, especially given the adverse wet and windy conditions being experienced in the East Wight today.
Numerous Police officers are on the ground alongside Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge and Ventnor, with search efforts currently focusing on the northern side of Culver Down.
Particular interest is being paid to 2 bicycles located near Peacock Hill.
WightSAR, the Island’s voluntary search and rescue team, has been deployed to assist the ongoing efforts.
Meanwhile, Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat has been launched to conduct a shoreline search between Yaverland and Whitecliff Bay.
The search began around 10:00 but it is unknown when the woman was last seen.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is yet to issue an appeal for information, but has confirmed officers are in the area in relation to a report of a missing woman.
UPDATE @ 15:07 – After more than 4 hours of searching, Police have now issued an appeal for information from the public.
64-year-old Gillian Burns, from Bembridge, remains missing.
