A new Youth County Darts Team has been launched on the Isle of Wight to give young players a pathway into competitive regional darts.
The JDC Isle of Wight Darts Academy has officially announced the launch of its new Youth County Darts Team, creating an elite pathway for the Island’s young players to compete on a regional stage.
The new team, launched on 1st June, will compete in the British Inter Counties Southern Youth Darts League.
Operating from Binstead Community Centre under JDC accredited coach John Abbotts, the academy provides structured coaching for young players and is accredited by the Junior Darts Corporation.
In a move linking youth and senior darts on the Island, the Youth County Team will play its home fixtures at the same venue as the Adult County Team – The Channel View Hotel in Shanklin.
The new county setup will feature 3 competitive divisions:
- Under-21 Boys
- Under-21 Girls
- Under-18 Boys
The youngest eligible players will be aged 10.
An academy spokesperson has said:
“By entering the British Inter Counties Southern Youth Darts League and leveraging our JDC-accredited structure, we are giving our young players an authentic, elite matchday experience.
“The squad will represent the pinnacle of youth darts on the Island, and membership at Binstead Community Centre remains the essential gateway to earning the county shirt.
“We encourage any young players on the Island who want to get involved to contact us to join the Academy.”
Young players interested in taking part can attend the academy at Binstead Community Centre on Friday evenings between 17:00 and 21:00.
