Year 6 pupils at Lanesend Primary School in Cowes have been told to self isolate as a result of a staff member testing positive for COVID-19.
The member of staff within the Year 6 bubble developed symptoms on Sunday evening and their test result came back positive this morning (Tuesday).
Parents were informed earlier on today that as a precaution children in the Year 6 bubble should stay at home. However, following talks with the Department for Education, it has now been confirmed that children should formally self-isolate for 10 days.
Today’s news comes just 2 days after Year 4 pupils and staff were told to self-isolate as a result of 2 positive cases.
UPDATE @ 11:35 – Due to 3 COVID cases within the school community this week, which has led to a number of staff being off work, the decision has been taken to close Lanesend Primary School for Christmas from the end of the day today (Tuesday).
All learning will move online for the final days of term.
Karen Herbert-Duff, Chair of Trustees, has said:
“This decision has not been made lightly and has followed conversations with the Head Teacher, Public Health, DfE and the Local Authority and a review of the numbers of staff that are now self-isolating.
“As Trustees we feel we can no longer guarantee the safe running of the school due to the reduced staff numbers and feel that online learning for the final 3 days of the term is the most appropriate course of action.
“We will be providing a key worker and vulnerable children provision for these final few days”.

Yet another extended holiday . Obviously the 26 weeks earlier in the year wasn’t long enough
What a well informed, sensitive and intelligent response. You must be quite a catch, Steve.
No just putting the truth out there
And we all really appreciate it. Thanks, Steve.
Not testing my kids
