The Ryde Skatepark User Group have been working in collaboration with Ryde Town Council to find the best solution for the skatepark as quickly as possible.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the skatepark was closed back in April after ramps were damaged by vandals.
Members of Ryde Skatepark User Group met the following month to discuss ideas for the regeneration of the park. Now, a plan is beginning to emerge.
Ryde Town Council has this week said:
“The Ryde Skatepark User Group have been working in collaboration with Ryde Town Council to find the best solution for the skatepark as quickly as possible. Following considerable consultation it has been agreed that the existing ramps cannot be saved and will be pulled down before the end of June. The structure beneath the ramps is not safe and they need to be replaced with something that will withstand the weather more robustly.
“Therefore a concrete solution is being sought to solve this issue. The skatepark users will be involved in every step of the process from initial design to ripping out the existing ramps and through to helping with the installation of the new concrete obstacles.”
A spokesperson for Wight Trash skate shop in Ryde said:
“It is really positive that so many of the local Ryde community and beyond, care about the skate facility in Ryde and have contributed their ideas. The desire for a ‘meanwhile’ solution so the park can re-open as soon as possible is very clear.”
“We are continuing to look at what can be done, with the aim of installing some basic, fun concrete obstacles that people can use once the park is cleared. This will make the site usable again, whilst plans for a longer term solution can be worked out so Ryde can have a great park facility well into the future.”

Ban it, too many low life state charity kept kids whose parents only have them because of the easy life they give in free house c.tax, and great income, and then allow them to clear off to vandalise stuff.
Give them nothing, they get too much now from workers.
You are wasting your time and money. Unless you make it a staffed, indoor venue, you are going to face the same problem again soon enough. It will always be a choice place for the young drinkers to frequent and it will inevitably end up being vandalised again in no time.
Indoor park wont work, not enough people on the island skate to make it viable.
Concrete skate parks are much more robust and can’t easily be vandalised. They work well in other parts of the country and are practically maintenance free!
We need more skate parks and tennis courts and safe places indoor and out now the ice rink has gone and youth clubs are no longer in existence and schools do not give time to sports so much. As to the children and their circumstances it is hardly their fault if parents are poor and that very fact tells us they need all the help they can get to realise a better future, and it helps them to learn to social skills and keeps them healthy. Gerrard Maggot you are disgusting.
