Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s specialist dog unit has welcomed 2 newly trained police dogs, boosting the force’s ability to detect illegal drugs across the Isle of Wight.
Harry and Whitney have successfully completed an intensive specialist training programme and are now operational as drugs detection dogs.
Whitney will be based with a handler on the Isle of Wight, where she will support frontline policing, although both dogs can be deployed across the wider region as part of the Joint Operations Unit – a collaborative team serving Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and Thames Valley.
Harry and Whitney will assist officers in identifying and disrupting illegal drug activity, including during vehicle stops, the execution of search warrants and community policing operations.
Inspector Andy Mooge has said:
“Harry and Whitney have shown fantastic potential throughout their training.
“Their deployment will significantly enhance our ability to detect drugs and support operations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Police dogs are an invaluable asset, and we are delighted to welcome them to the team.”
The poor things will be worn out after their first day on the Island. Just walk up any high street & sometimes the smell of dope is overpowering!
A step in the right direction but we need more than one on the Isle of Wight.
Great idea, all we need now are robodogs going
around the island catching speeding motorists.

They don’t bite and get results.
I don’t know, I enjoy watching Police Interceptors on Channel 5, where Bryn, the Police dog, gets to sniff out a criminal, and when the criminal doesn’t obey instructions, the dog goes straight in. “Good boy”.
Hearing an adult cry out, “Stop, I want my mummy”, after Bryn has gone in and latched onto the criminal is, for me, a good bit of evening entertainment. I do think Bryn ought to get more than just a ball as a reward, though.
