Former newspaper columnist and author Terence Blacker will be performing a 1 man show entitled The Shock Of The Old at Medina Bookshop in Cowes.
Terence Blacker has had a chequered career, a former columnist for both The Times and The Independent he went on to be a successful author of novels for both adults and children, and his biography of Willie Donaldson ‘You Cannot Live As I Have Lived and Not End Up Like This’ was BBC Radio 4’s Book of the Week.
However, in more recent years he has directed his focus to writing and performing his satirical songs, described by Gyles Brandreth as “witty, wistful, wonderful”.
On Monday 5th June he brings his latest hilarious and spirit-lifting new show The Shock Of The Old to Medina Bookshop in Cowes. Now in his mid 70s his show celebrates 1 of the great challenges of life – the art of ageing with style.
With songs plus anecdotes and a dash of wisdom, he shows how getting old can be the best, most liberating – and funniest – part of your life, and though he may not reveal the great secret of the coming of age, he shares a world of fun, warmth and wisdom looking for it.
Since 2012, he has released 5 albums of his songs with his last album Playing For Time being selected by the Sunday Times as one of its Top 100 Albums of 2020. He has also written and presented a documentary series about the history of politically incorrect music called Taboo-Be-Do! for BBC Radio 4. And now with his new 1 man show he has been picking up loads of great praise from the critics.
The performance on Monday 5th June is at 19:00, tickets are £12 and available from Medina Bookshop website or in person from the shop 01983 300044. The shop is unlicensed and attendees are asked to bring their own refreshments.
