Three Wight Tri athletes have conquered the Copenhagen Ironman, achieving personal bests and a first-time finish.
Daniel Morgan, Craig Wilson and Kelly Moorman took on the gruelling triathlon event in Denmark on Friday (16th August), which featured a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and a full 26.2-mile marathon.
For Dan and Craig, who are both experienced in Ironman competitions, the fast Copenhagen course provided the opportunity to aim for sub-11 hour personal bests. For Kelly, it was her first full Ironman distance event.
The race began in the Amager Strandpark sea lagoon, where all 3 Isle of Wight athletes launched together in the same wave. Dan led the swim, finishing in 1:08:35, with Kelly and Craig close behind at 1:11:31 and 1:11:36.
On the 112-mile bike leg, which included both urban and countryside terrain, the trio maintained strong performances. Dan completed the course in 5:10:49, Craig followed with 5:23:15, and Kelly rode in 6:18:12.
The final leg – a marathon through Copenhagen’s historic streets – tested physical and mental endurance. Dan and Craig pushed through the final miles, crossing the line in 10:49:01 and 10:52:17 respectively, both achieving personal bests.
Kelly, despite knee pain from the bike section, completed the race in 13:36:56. She described the run as her favourite part of the day.
Over 2,500 athletes took part in the Copenhagen Ironman, with crowds turning out in force to cheer on the competitors.
All 3 Wight Tri members have been praised for their determination and team spirit throughout the event.
