Wight Eagles FC have confirmed that Dan Verstraeten has stepped down from his role as Ladies Manager following Sunday’s 2–2 home draw with league leaders Rushmoor.
Verstraeten departs the role after two seasons in charge, during which he successfully secured the club’s place in Hampshire Women’s Division 2 last season.
Under his leadership, the Ladies side also enjoyed a strong cup run, reaching the semi-finals of the Hampshire Cup last season.
Dan has been closely involved with Wight Eagles for a number of years, having founded and developed the Wight Eagles Academy in 2019, which he managed for around six years.
The Academy has played a crucial role in the Ladies team’s recent success, providing a clear pathway for young players to progress into the senior squad. A number of current first-team players have emerged through the youth system, helping to build a competitive and youthful squad.
The decision for Verstraeten to step aside was made by mutual agreement between himself and club chairman Mike Ross, due to increasing work commitments.
Mike commented:
“Dan has been instrumental in constructing and developing the current Ladies team. They are a young side and it is a tribute to the Academy that so many of them have come into the team that way.
“Dan’s skills and commitment have been evident in the Ladies’ success this season.
“I’m happy to say Dan will remain with the club as Director of Football and continue the Academy’s development for the future of women’s football on the Island.”
Wight Eagles FC has thanked Dan for his commitment and dedication during his time as Ladies Manager and confirmed he will continue to play a key role at the club through his ongoing work with the Academy.
